Yesterday's action by the Senate Republicans has revealed more clearly than ever that they are allied with Bush in squelching any inquiry into pre-war Iraq intelligence. They also will stonewall any inquiry into the Plame affair, and pre-9/11 knowledge.
McCain obviously knows all this, and has commented on his frustration at the 9/11 committee stonewalling. He knows that with the Senate and House under Rep. control there will be no inquiry, and therefore no remediation of the problems that threaten us.
A switch by him (and Chaffee) to make the Senate Democratic, even just until 2005, would be a supremely patriotic act, because it would enable the Senate to find out the truth that Bush et al. are trying to hide.
Yet he still says (even if tepidly), "I support Bush's reelection." I don't think he'll run for President because he knows the party is captive to the far right and will "Bob Jones" him again.
What do you think he should do?
