Does anybody else want to know where the so-called "progressive" A-list bloggers stand on a continuum between corporate Democrats and a Kuchinich type or TrueMajority platform? The progressive waters are so muddied these day that "progressive" seems to mean whatever agenda can possibly garner a 51% vote margin. In my district the Democratic candidate came out for repeal of the estate tax!
I think most of us who have followed politics for a while understand that Kuchinich's platform or a TrueMajority agenda represent the liberal vein of Democratic politics. You have to eliminate insurance companies from health care to be a liberal-- right? In some way you have to address a 600 billion dollar defense budget as immoral-- right? So what do these "progressive" A-list bloggers represent? Are they closet corporate Democrats?
I am pretty certain that John over at AmericaBlog who spent the key Reagan years as a ardent Republican and the late 80's early 90's working for Ted Stevens has some of those authoritarian tendencies or weaknesses. I think Josh can pretty easily be called a Moynihan Democratic with a little Jackson thrown in. Kos is a different breed, more of a technocrat Democrat which loves to play the political game. If a candidate is electable and will put a D behind his name, he will work with him. I really don't know if Kos has a meaningful philosophy or a Excel spreadsheet to guide his politics.
I think Atrios, Digby and Jane/Christy are a bit more to the left but I am not sure. As far as I can tell, none of them embrace a Kuchinich or TrueMajority or Bernie Sanders platform.
So today when Edwards talked about corporate Democrats, it made me wonder who among A-list bloggers support the "corporate" Democrats.
I remember Digby supported Clark, was he a corporate Democrat? I don't remember who or if Atrios, Josh, Jane/Christy, Kos, John supported but my guess is that under the definition set out by Edwards today, if they did, it was a corporate Democrat.
Here in lies the problem in the Democratic Party. The party stands for nothing. It has become a warm and fuzzy 70's type Republican Party. Can we say that the big-time A-list "progressive" bloggers are part of the corporate Democratic Party. I am pretty certain they would not wear a liberal label well.
I am fine with these big-time A-list bloggers calling themselves "progressives." I read all of them daily and think they write well and cover the news pretty well. But can it be said that when the rubber meets the road that their heart and politics is corporate Democrat all the way?
