One more reason our policy in Iraq is so f'd up, via IraqSlogger:
Documents obtained by IraqSlogger show Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki's chief Iraqi opponent, Ayad Allawi, is paying Washington lobbyists with close ties to the White House $300,000 to help with Allawi's efforts in the U.S. to promote himself and undermine Maliki.
And funny enough, Allawi wrote an op-ed against Maliki in the WaPo on August 18th.
We forget that, just as US politicians use events and actors in Iraq to play politics here, politicians in Iraq use events and actors in the US to play politics in Iraq. Just as Chalabi played people, so can anyone--ANYONE--that US politicians consider an authority push their own agenda, perhaps to the detriment of something workable in Iraq.
Just one more reason to get out of this mess before we get deeper.
