Did anyone see Chris Matthews cut off Naomi Wolf tonight when she tried to turn the discussion to something more important than Larry Craig?
Naomi started out by saying that she didn't think the Craig scandal would have a lasting impact - that it might end Craig's career, but would have no impact on Romney or the other Republicans running for president.
Then she tried to say that people realize that there are much more important issues at stake, such as Mitt Romney's refusal to sign the American Freedom Agenda's request to support the Constitution.
At that point, Tweety lost it.
He interrupted her, saying loudly and agitatedly, "OK, don't come on this show and change the subject! If you don't want to talk about Larry Craig, then stop talking, okay?"
She reacted with some astonishment and just said, "OK, I'll talk about Craig."
Matthews (still in an angry tone): "What you think is the political significance of this? If you say none, that's a good answer. You can't just change the subject."
Wolf: "I think it's none, Chris, sorry, I think it's none."
Matthews: "OK, fine, let's move on now."
After the break, he said they had reached a truce and she got another few seconds, where she made a good point. "Most Americans looking at this, whatever their politics, feel sorry for the senator and his family, they understand that this is a personal failing, a compulsion, and they're not on board with Carl Rove's strategy of [at this point Tweety starts trying to interrupt] driving political success through hatred, and that's why the Republicans are going to try to win this coming presidential campaign on terror rather than on their accomplishments, which are not significant enough."
