Football is back, and I'm a big fantasy geek. So I thought I would combine my two favorite things...sports and politics...and rank the candidates for each position.
So if you're gearing up for a political draft, see below the fold. Who's your pick for each position? I'll rank the top five.
First up: Presidents.
President:
The president is the most important player in the game. He/She leads the team, calls the signals and handles the ball. Intelligence is a must at this position, or the team isn't going anywhere.
1. Al Gore
Pluses: Too many to name
Minuses: Out of the League
Analysis: The heavyweight from Tennessee has yet to win the big one, thanks to a terrible call in the 4th quarter in 2000, but he's a proven leader with enough experience to take it all the way. He's trimmed down coming into this season, but, much like Brett Favre, no one's ever sure if he's retired or not. A risky pick, but a good one if he plays.
2. John Edwards
Pluses: Populist
Minuses: Lawyer
Analysis: The SEC strikes again with the former Senator from South Carolina. He's never led a team to the promised land, but now might be his time. He's polished, poised and willing to step up against a tough defense. Tested in a tough battle as a rookie, he's hungry for a win.
3. Barack Obama
Pluses: Charisma
Minuses: Rookie
Analysis: The kid from Illinois ranks number three. A sleeper pick, maybe, but there's something to be said for inspirational leadership: That can carry a team. He's got the talent to take it all the way, but he's unproven. He'll need a few calls to go his way, but don't count this guy out.
4. Hillary Clinton
Pluses: Former First Lady, Senator from New York, Bill
Minuses: Former First Lady, Senator from New York, Bill
Analysis: The wily veteran came into the season as the top pick, and she still holds an impressive lead. She has coughed up a few fumbles, but she's never had a problem recovering. A proven fighter, she has the guts and brains to win the big one.
5. Bill Richardson
Pluses: Long resume
Minuses: Foot-in-mouth disease
Analysis: Another veteran makes the list, and his credentials are impressive. Is there anything this guy hasn't done? He's played every position on the field, but he'll need to toss a hail mary to pull this one out.
