Every day of September I'm making a contribution to a new candidate, announcing it here on Daily Kos, and encouraging you to join me. If one person matches my contribution on my ActBlue page, I'll double my contribution; if ten people match it, I'll triple. Details here.
Yesterday Clem Yeobright (again) matched my contribution to Mary Jo Kilroy (thanks yet again, Clem!), so today I'm sending Mary Jo $20 more.
And today's candidate is someone special - one of us. Follow me below the fold for more, and please click through and help give his campaign a boost.
Ron Shepston is running for Congress. And he is a Kossack, known here as canyoubeangryandstilldream. As Ron says in his diary, he's "not a candidate coming to the netroots for support; [he's] a candidate coming from the netroots." That's not unique, but it's damned special - and it imposes on us, his homies, his tribe, a special obligation: we've got to be the core of his support. Big corporate donors simply aren't going to back him; he's not going to be their servant, unlike the corrupt incumbent, Dirty Gary Miller. The DCCC is already happy with Ron, but the more we can bring up his numbers, the greater will be his cachet with them. And this month of September ends the quarter, and quarterly numbers are what folks at the DCCC and elsewhere pay attention to. So won't you please help bring Ron's numbers up? You may have already contributed to Ron's campaign - and this certainly won't be the last time you're asked to do so. For our candidates to win, they need our support; and no candidate is more ours than Ron Shepston. By that, I hasten to point out, I don't mean that he will bend to our will, pander to us, do favors - we don't, won't, mustn't, and shouldn't "own" him. I do mean that as one of us, he's going to support policies that honor our values, because they are his values as well.
He's one of us and he needs our help. I'm helping him with $20 today, and I'm hoping to have an excuse to drop $40 more in the pot tomorrow. Won't you please help me help Ron? Thank you!
