Ah, the joys of watching ultra-W Lackeys like Ari Fleischer get smacked around by a hard rightie like Larry Klayman, formerly of the Clinton-tormenting Judicial Watch
Klayman gets kudos though, for living up to his Clinton-bashing ideals by also going after Cheney's Energy Task Force with oil industry executives when W first slithered into office via unelected, activist judges
Also turns out that Klayman registered the name "Freedom's Watch" back in 2004, but there's the rub, and an extra layer of Ironic Schadenfreude as well, more after the break
Like an onion, the irony exists in layers with this story
Conservative Klayman Sues Pro-Bush Group
Larry Klayman, once a hero of conservatives for persistently taking Bill Clinton to court, sued former aides and financial backers of President Bush on Monday for using the name ``Freedom's Watch'' to mount a multimillion dollar campaign in support of the war in Iraq.
And which "Freedom's Watch" is that?
Freedom's Watch is a new organization formed last month and financed by former Bush aides and Republican fundraisers. It is mounting a $15 million advertising campaign across the country to pressure Democrats and wavering Republicans not to interfere with President Bush's Iraq strategy.
Ah yes, Freedom's Watch, the group run by Ari Fleischer, who couldn't remember the name of the maimed soldier Freedom Watch featured so prominently in one of it's ads-that vet's name is John Kriesel, BTW, Ari
I'm thinking that Ari, after having successfully evaded lots of media glare when he left the W Administration, will end up much like Michael Corleone, with talk of "they dragged me back in" after the Iraqis tire of the US military presence and force us to leave using helicopters via Green Zone roofs
Asides, well, aside, let's hear from Larry Klayman himself, through a press release
'All The President's Men' Stole 'Freedom Watch' Trademark
Several weeks ago, before defendants began running tens of millions of dollars of ads to promote the Iraq War, when "Freedom's Watch" was announced by Fleischer, Klayman warned the defendants not to infringe his mark and to cease and desist. Klayman not only sought to protect his mark, but objected to its use to destroy the real Freedom Watch trademark, as his group, while supportive of killing or capturing Saddam Hussein, views the protracted Iraq civil war as counterproductive to promoting freedom. Thus, the use by the Bush-Cheney administration of the Freedom Watch mark, even notwithstanding the alleged infringement, destroys its purpose, which is to promote freedom, not civil war and chaos.
"The Bush front group Freedom's Watch is a fraud," stated Klayman. These arrogant political lobbyists and rich Bush 'yes men,' who believe they are above the law, are not furthering freedom, but in fact harming it. I, for one, won't allow my mark to be illegally used for political purposes. And, I certainly will not allow these arrogant Washington elite to get away with having stolen the Freedom Watch name, which belongs to me.
And now, perhaps the funniest aspect of the W-lackeys version of Freedom's Watch, just how they got the name, and what their legal strategy to keep it will undoubtedly be, from the article
Though Klayman did file to register the name Freedom Watch with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 2004, the federal agency last year listed its status as abandoned. Agency records show that Klayman filed for registration again on Aug. 23 of this year, a day after Freedom's Watch announced its advertising campaign.
The only chance the bin Laden appeasing Freedom's Watch Bush BS group has in court is based on, ironically, a screw up caused by the Administration, and Fleischer's crew will then claim they shouldn't be penalized for a mistake made by the Administration in listing the term as "abandoned" when it apparently wasn't
Ah, the irony of claiming a successful military policy by the same people using a wrongly-issued group name-from the same Administration it's spending so much money to defend-as a result
And how does OJ tie into this?
Well, as Klayman said in his press release
I would have expected robbery from O.J. Simpson, but not by 'All the President's Men,'" Klayman added.
Oh, the agony of comparing W and Co to OJ and Co, especially after this past weekend, when what happened in Vegas didn't stay in Vegas-sorry, heard that on the radio earlier today, loved the line
Good Job all around for Ari Fleischer and the rest of his reality-challenged slugs at Freedom's Watch, between this fiasco and not knowing the name of the maimed soldier taking part in its Bush BS campaign, they certainly must be striking quite the fear in all those politicians wavering in their support of The Glory Of All Things W
