If it is Kerry (I still hope it's Edwards...), how should he choose his VP. Tradition says he should balance, which would make Edwards the logical choice (young v. old, southern vs. NE, popular touch v. aloof, domestic emphasis vs. foreign).
However, Clinton successfully introduced a new VP strategy: the rhyme. He chose a fellow border southerner, moderate, young. This emphasized the key differences with Bush (old, out of touch, still in Cold War mindset).
I think Kerry should also rhyme (except
geographically) his strong suits - veteran
experience, foreign policy, older/mature - in
order to continue his encouragingly successful
ability to neutralize the only thing Bush has
left going for him: the GOP edge on foreign
policy/homeland security.
This would make Clark a potentially good option.
Any other candidates?
