Veterans and Military Families for Progress (www.vmfp.org) is a 501(c)(4) headquartered in Washington, DC. VMFP seeks to promote and protect the interests of veterans and military families through public awareness and political action. I am currently a member of their Government Affairs Committee and they are helping Military Spouses for Change (www.militaryspousesforchange.com) lobby for the improved dental and vision benefits for military families.
VMFP is having its biennial conference September 28th to September 30th at the Sheraton in Arlington (northern VA). The theme of the Conference is honoring our wounded warriors. There will be several panel discussions, one of which I will be participating in (gulp). Read on for more...
VMFP will be giving awards to Annette Macleod, Dana Priest, and Anne Hull. Annette is the wife of the wounded warrior who contacted the press about the living conditions at Walter Reed. Dana Priest and Anne Hull are the Washington Post reporters who ran the story exposing those conditions.
The panels will be:
- Political Will: Growing Grassroots and Building Community Support.
- Coming Home: Taking Care of our Veterans and Military Families
- Promoting Change: Endorsing Candidates and Supporting Legislation
- Intergovernmental Partnerships: How State and local Governments are Helping Veterans and Military Families
Political activists and elected officials will be attending and speaking (as well as officials from various state VA offices) making it a great networking opportunity.
I would like to encourage veterans and military families to join VMFP and/or consider coming to the conference if you can (we have rooms at a reduced rate at the Sheraton). You can learn more at the VMFP website or you can email me.
Also, VMFP is always looking for corporate sponsors, so if want to pass the conference information on to a potential donor or sponsor, please do!
