Well, isn't this special. You may remember a month or so ago, when our those Democrats who supposedly represent us capitulated once again, and helped pass the expansion of the FISA law, so that strange men in dark rooms might continue to spy on us, illegally and without a warrant?
Well, anyone remember how the Dems acted all shook-up and saying "gosh, this is really important for national security?"
Well it turns out that the "threat" of an attack that was being used to pass this bill was ... (drumroll please) .... bogus.
What's that old sayingn "fool me once, shame on ...." hell, I don't know how it goes, and why should I? The Pretzeldent can't even get it right. At any rate, the Republicans said "Boo" and the Democrats screamed like little girls.
More over the fold ...
Here's the ugly, embarrassing story:
Republicans and the Bush administration used a 'bogus' terror threat that raised specific fears of an attack on the Capitol to scare lawmakers into adopting a dramatic temporary expansion of the government's spy powers last month, a former top intelligence committee Democrat said Wednesday.
Congress agreed to give President Bush and the nation's intelligence agencies extra authority to spy on Americans just hours before lawmakers left for a month-long recess in August. In the legislative session's final week, news emerged of an impending plot by foreign terrorists to attack the US Capitol, and Republicans pointed to the reports as justification to expand the administration's powers.
"That specific intelligence claim, it turned out, was bogus; the intelligence agencies knew that," Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA) said at a forum on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act organized by the Center for American Progress in Washington. However, lawmakers did not learn of the claim's unreliability until "the day" they approved the FISA expansion, she said.
You gotta hand it to Harmon. It must be really embarrassing to tell this story now. And how many of her fellow Democrats really want it brought to the public's attention? I wouldn't, if I was a spineless little chickenshit who keeps falling for Republican LIES.
And now, of course, Bush is sending his minions into the trenches to lobby for NOT ONLY making the expansion permanent, with the Orwellian name "Protect America Act" but to provide immunity to the telecom companies that helped break the law and spy on us.
Isn't that just great?
I guess it's great to be King. Hell, if you're King, you don't even have to worry about having zero popularity. Somehow you'll find toadies to do your bidding against the will of the people no matter what. And when those whose job it is to defend the people against the whims of the King are little chicken-hearted ninnies who faint at the sound of every lie from the King, well, it's even better, isn't it?
How stupid are these people? TOO DAMN STUPID. WHY do they keep believing Bush? Nobody else iin the country does! Nobody fell for his Betrayus puppet bullshit! The polls didn't budge! But if you're a Washington "insider?" Holy shit you just pee your pants every time the assholes says "terra-ists".
Losers. Every one of them who voted for this crap. Cowardly losers.
