News:
Steven McDermott has announced the winners of the Storyglossia Fiction Prize. Hearty congratulations to Stephanie Dickinson for 'Watch the Flashlight Girls Run' and the other finalists! What a momentous feeling to earn such prestigious recognition. I am very glad for you. Last year’s winner Kristen Tsetsi, was featured in ‘Storyglossia ’06’ along with a lot of great writers. I especially liked 'Waxing Razal' by Theresa Boyer, and Vacancies by Gabrielle Idlet.
Kristen Tsetsi also has a new story at Denver Syntax.
Charlene Martel reviews Steven McDermott’s book 'Winter of Different Directions.' Charlene informs us that her review site is ‘really taking off’ and that’s she’s been offered the opportunity to write a book. Sounds good to me.
I too have been reading McDermott’s book - a collection of his own short stories. My favorites are 'Nothingness' and 'Seven Blocks North, Two Miles East.'
Mike Philbin tells us that he’s signed a new book contract. Way to go, Mike! That’s the kinda news I like to hear.
Lee Rourke’s collection of short stories Everyday will be out soon. I like Rourke’s writing, there’s a point to his stories. Dogmatica will be interviewing Lee in an upcoming issue.
A couple of the best interviews I’ve read are here and here. You can’t beat Coleman for passion and exhuberance.
On a sad note, Levi Asher informs us of the passing of the lovely Philomene Long. We are less now.

A couple of points here -
Joseph Ridgwell discusses young writers and old geezers at The Guardian.
Don Eminizer asks the question - why? My response is to refer to Hesse and Sartre - in a godless world, it’s up to each of us to make our own why, our own way, and extend this to making our whole planet be the way we want it to be.
Dave Scotese remarks that children are brilliant, adults are stupid. My response - the central core of my personal belief system is that children are the meaning of life. That childhood is the essence of life. I met a painter, Simon Hart, in Aviano, Italy (1984 or so). Told me he liked to see little kids' reactions to his paintings - "they'll tell you if they love it or hate it. Aren't sophisticated enough to lie."
And all the little children throughout the world, imagining they'll grow up to be something grand, something out of their dreams. Would that I could make it so for them. That's my goal, anyway. And I hope to convince 6 billion other people to go along with me.
