Every day of September (almost) I'm making a contribution to a new candidate, announcing it here on Daily Kos, and encouraging you to join me. If one person matches my contribution on my ActBlue page, I'll double my contribution; if ten people match it, I'll triple. Details here.
Wow! Dan Seals has a lot of fans here. Yesterday I followed up on madame defarge's suggestion and added him to my list - and seventeen more people contributed! Thanks, all - that feels great. Dan, here's $40 more from me. Many, many thanks, Madame Defarge, for rallying the troops.
On this penultimate day of the fundraising season, I'm endorsing a second candidate from Colorado's 4th district. Follow me below the fold to find out why.
---------------------
When I endorsed Angie Paccione on the third day of this monthlong adventure, I got a nice message from Betsy Markey's husband Jim asking if I had considered Betsy's candidacy. I'm sorry to say I hadn't - hadn't even realized that Angie was running in a contested primary. I mulled it over, did a little research, and decided that, based on the little I knew, I wanted to stick with Angie - and pay somewhat closer attention to future races to avoid (inadvertent) involvement in primaries. I'm not really comfortable playing a role in choosing the "best" Democrat in another district (Donna Edwards being a very notable and carefully considered exception to this rule). Anyway, I passed on Betsy, having cast my lot with Angie, based largely on name recognition.
I liked - and like - a lot of Betsy's positions; I like that she has recieved a lot of endorsements from Colorado - and national - Democrats. She appears to be a dedicated public servant and an energetic campaigner.
Well, yesterday Angie gave me a reason to endorse Betsy. She's bowing out of the primary. I still think she would, because of name recognition, have had an easier time defeating Marilyn Musgrave (on Karl Rove's "priority defense" list). But I think Betsy can do it, and I think she might very well be a better Congresswoman than Angie would have been.
So I'm happy to contribute $20 to Betsy Markey today; won't you please join me? A surge of funds for her campaign before the third quarter ends would be great.
