A good friend in Singapore emailed me this mornign with a fair amount of anxiety and desparation in wanting to do something.
He's risking much to go with others Saturday morning to place lotus flowers at the Burmese embassy there. Without a permit, he could be arrested. In Singapore, the embassy is at 5 St. Martin's Road if you want to join them.
But there's something so easy that you, too can do to help this situation.
Yes, you do have the power to influence what happens in Burma, good or bad:
Pressure needs to be applied to those that can influence the junta, like China and India and support members of the Democratic Voice of Burma at its website if its still up.
My friend asks:
China and India
write to the Chinese and Indian ambassadors in your
country and ask them to stop being complicit with the violence, through their inaction.
China maintains close economic and political links to
the Burmese government and India has built strong
military ties and recently signed energy deals.
ASEAN and its Member Embassies
Write to the ASEAN (Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia,
Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam, Brunei, Thailand) and individual member embassies and urge them to persuade the junta to end its violent crackdown on the protesters.
(sorry, links are for the US embassies)
In London:
Embassy of the Union of Myanmar

You can read about the developments happening at CNN, too and the BBC and at a news site run by Burmese exiles.
If you haven't yet signed the petition at MoveOn's International equivalent, please do so.
My friend thanks you and I thank you, too.
