Tomorrow is the FEC filing deadline for the campaigns. Below are my picks and reasons.
John Laesch - http://www.john06.com/
I met John earlier this month. He's a good guy. He's running against Denny Hastert (R-IL), who's the current speaker of the house. I consider my donation a swipe at the GoP house leadership.
Jerry McNerney - http://www.jerrymcnerney.org/
He's running against Pombo (R-CA), who's the incumbent and an oil industry sock puppet. He's also a clean energy advocate, so if we flip this seat over, it would be a HUGE win for alternative energy.
Jack Carter - http://www.carterfornevada.com/
Yes, Jimmy's son. His was my favorite party of all of the YearlyKos parties. Why? With Gen. Clark renting out the Hard Rock Casino's club and Gov. Warner throwing a shindig maybe 2 notches below Nero at the Stratosphere, Jack had a suite at the Riviera with a bathtub full of Coronas and some fried chicken. I got a Minutemen song stuck in my head. It was so much more down to earth. And so is he. And, he's running against John Ensign (R-NV) who voted against Net Neutrality in committee yesterday. Carter is for Net Neutrality. If you believe in an open internet and a level playing field, this is a GREAT campaign to support.
Bill Durston - http://www.durstonforcongress.org/
What can I say, he's a former Marine. I had to help a brotha out. He's also running against Dan Lungren (R-CA). That district votes heavily republican, so Bill needs all the help he can get.
Ned Lamont - http://nedlamont.com/
Joe Lieberman was the democratic sponsor for the bill that authorized the invasion of Iraq. He's often been caught parroting Bush's talking points. Here's the ad:
But that's not the real reason I'm backing Ned Lamont to unseat an incumbent 'democrat' in the senate. NARAL and NOW are backing Lamont because Joe Lieberman, asked if emergency room doctors should be required to give emergency contraception to rape victims if they ask for it, basically said that if an ED doctor said no, the victims should just go the the next ED down the road until they find one who will.
That's fucked up. That's certainly not a progressive stance. Joe Lieberman is a latent republican who gets to sit in on the dem cloakroom. He's fired. We need real dems in the dem cloakroom. And Lamont is an actual progressive democrat. Not a wolf in sheeps clothing like we've got now in Lieberman.
The change jar owes me another $21. That's $20 for Tester and $1 for Act Blue.
