The Baptist Center for Ethics is releasing a new, 36-minute DVD called "Golden Rule Politics: Reclaiming the Rightful Role of Faith in Politics."
Listen to Judy Baker, a Democratic representative in the Missouri State Legislature, whose husband, John, is a Baptist pastor, talk about the shocked responses she gets when people discover she is a Baptist, a mister's spouse, and a Democrat.
Pastors William Buchanan and Tim Alexander talk about the lure of the Religious Right and the distortion of faith which happens when God is equated with just one political party.
This DVD does an excellent job of deconstructing the assumption that the GOP is "God's Only Party." All of the politicians who appear in the film are Deomocrats, because the Republican who were invited refused to participate. Still, there is a balanced principle presented here that goes beyong partisanship on either side.
If you are not familiar with Artur Davis, representative to the U. S. Congress from AL-07, he emerges as a real star in this film. I would consider moving to Alabama to vote for this guy. Unfortunately, I do not have a clip of him from the film to post. He is in the intro clip at the top of the diary for about five seconds. Here he is on Youtube questioning then Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
