As people who have read my comments know, I'm the furthest thing from a HRC supporter, This question simply represents the amount of faith I have in the US electorate. Identity politics has proven to be a powerful force, especially with HRC supporters who will really feel rejected if Obama doesn't pick Hillary.
How about a retro-hypothetical? What if Hillary would have won the nomination and didn't pick Obama, would the republican nominee then pick a black running mate? I suspect so. That's an example of how screwed up the US electorate is, when this type of cynicism reflects circumstances that could be within the realm of possibility. There seems to be an inability for some people to bury the hatchet, when it comes to identity politics(whether they admit it or not).
The revenge-factor caused by a Democratic nominee of one "kindred identity" rejecting a VP prospect of another "kindred identity" could very well cause defection from the party, especially if the republican nominee selects a VP prospect belonging to the "kindred identity" rejected by the Democratic nominee.
I do not believe that Obama should let this type of identity manipulation influence his decision. I only think it's important to guard against this kind of crap from the republican party, which has demonstrated it's ability to manipulate people time and time again, using a scapegoating-type "us vs. them" mind fuck. We all know the republican party will stoop to anything to win elections. That's why I think this poll question is important.
Poll question.
