Over at RedState, Moe has front paged a diary with embedded youtube video purporting to be of a House committee or subcommittee hearing, videotaped by C-SPAN in "Late 2004", and which they claim shows Democrats subverting the goal of regulating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. There is no specific date, no reference to the committee or subcommittee in question, and it consists of several quotes by members apparently taken out of context. But since there is no specific reference to the Hearing in question, there's no way to check the Congressional Record to verify context. Included below the fold is the video.
This would appear to be the next line of attack: The Financial Crisis Was the Fault of Democrats, and Here's the Proof:
When did this hearing take place? What is the full context of these statements? Who was the ranking committee member in charge? I'd like to know the answers to those questions.
UPDATE: A closer look at this video shows that the content is stitched together from at least three different hearings. Also, note the fast cuts in the middle of statements by Democrats - showing that the editors selectively edit statements out of context. This is a carefully done video. And it appears to be highly misleading.
