And so I did, again, this a.m. Another $100 to John Edwards' people-power campaign. Why?
-- the delegate count is a dead heat
-- no candidate has won every state vote/caucus
-- JRE's message of fighting back for people who have no voice resonates with me like few other campaigns in recent years
-- my conservative mother in law told me last night that she would vote for John Edwards. I believe his appeal to centrist/moderate Republican voters is unique. He does very, very well against Republican candidates in states that Democrats will need to win if they are to win the presidency.
And last, but not least (on the flip)
I am so angry at the media blackout going on, right now, which paints this as a two-person race. Look, I really like Obama; and I would support Hillary Clinton with every fiber in my being if she won the nomination. But to almost completely ignore the Edwards campaign (as I saw was done on NBC's morning program, less than an hour ago) is an injustice that no Obama supporter, no Clinton supporter--indeed, no American who loves his country and believes that voters and not media big-wig-knowitalls (the same people who told us up to Tuesday that Hillary was doomed)--should support.
Yes, if Edwards continues to lose and fall behind -- a media blackout is going to happen. But now? After only a few hundred thousand voters have caucused/voted? After but two states? Ignoring the fact that he finished a strong second in Iowa, that he has the resources to continue, and that he does best of all in head-to-head matchups with GOP candidates?
This is but one more example of the media telling you, me, and everyone else what we should think politically.
And. It. Is. WRONG!
This morning, I received a new email from the Edwards campaign--lookking for support from Edwards supporters in neighboring states to help fund his South Carolina campaign. Here's what our money will buy:
Here's how your contribution can help:
$27.00 pays for necessary office supplies like pens and pads of paper
$60.00 buys folding worktables for our volunteers
$75.00 helps pay the rent on our Columbia office
$110 helps cover rental and gas for a van to transport volunteers as they go door-to-door
Please make a contribution today to help us expand our operations in South Carolina today.
The time for ALL of us to stand up, and be counted, has not ended. Despite what the traditional media morons are telling us. The time for most all of us to have our say with our vote is still coming. But the time to give--to make all of that happen--to shock the media morons again in South Carolina and elsewhere is now.
When you rise up, America rises up. When we speak for those who have not yet given voice to the process of electing an American president, we all rise up.
Rise up. Be counted. Don't let the media morons win again.
NOTE: I am in no way affiliated with the Edwards for President campaign.
Edit: This comment below really sums it all up--what is at stake:
But the media aren't the only ones wedded to a convoluted, self-destructive paradigm. Oh how quickly so many desperate citizens cave in and cling to this rigged system of allowing big money interests to continue picking our Presidents.
They flatter themselves that they are being smart and pragmatic by focusing their energies on electing a corporate owned Democrat over a corporate owned Republican - as if winning such and election is actually winning something.
They speak of their desire for change, but when real, substantive change is offered up to them on a silver platter, they go running back to Big Brother like frightened children seeking nothing more than protection from the unknown.
This isn’t about Edwards, it’s about all of us. It’s about standing up to the challenges before us and living up to the legacy that our founding fathers left us. It’s about doing as much for those who will follow as those who came before did for us. Certainly the odds are stacked against us and our candidate. But, this is the best chance we have ever had and if we fail to take up this fight now, future generations will be forced to fight an even harder and most likely violent battle to end this oppression of the many by the few.
We will never see a more serious, more determined, more informed, or better equipped candidate with the clear vision and high public visibility of the one we have before us now. Now, when we have the opportunity through the internet to override and cut through the MSM propaganda, sharing information and empowering the people like never before. The wealthy corporate elite who have for so long had a firm grip on this country, are right now in the weakest position that they have ever been in. Too many things (like internet technology exploding just when they had finally conquered full control of mass media) have caught them unprepared and threaten to expose them as the enemies of the people that they are. If they win this battle by shutting down JRE’s chances, they will NEVER allow themselves to be so vulnerable again. And no serious advocate of the people, will ever be allowed to raise to the level of visibility and position of opportunity that John Edwards is in right now.
John Edwards is offering REAL change. The only kind of change that matters. Change in everything about this disastrous, rigged system. Beginning with the rigged selection process. I wouldn't be interested in him OR in this upcoming election if Edwards were simply talking about change while playing along with the same old rigged selection process.
