Do all the people here who are calling for Edwards to drop out also cheer every time Harry Reid capitulates or Nancy Pelosi reiterates that impeachment is off the table? They certainly haven’t been paying attention to his campaign. The core message of his campaign isn’t about poverty or "Two Americas" or anything like that. It’s about fighting for what you believe in. Quitting after finishing 2nd and 3rd in two primaries is the antithesis of this message.
The candidacy of John Edwards is vital to making necessary changes to this country. This is bigger than winning or losing a primary or two. From the announcement of his candidacy, John Edwards has driven the debate to the left, be it by making detailed policy proposals, many of which have been adopted by the other candidates, by being the first to refuse to participate in the FOX debates, or simply by taking strong stands on behalf of average people against entrenched special interests. John Edwards is the real agent of change in this election cycle, more than Obama, certainly more than Clinton and exponentially more than Romney, Huckabee, McCain or any of the other republicans now jumping on the "change" bandwagon.
The appeal of John Edwards lies not in his policies but rather in his willingness and ability to fight for his beliefs. Like Howard Dean in 2004, Edwards doesn't offer any radical ideas - his ideas are (or at least should be) the core principles of the Democratic party. What sets Edwards (and Dean) apart (other than merely having principles) is their willingness to stand up for their principles. This is the reason for for the passion among his supporters. This is also the reason he should stay in the race.
The blogosphere must move beyond the corporate owned media's "coverage" of this election based on a horse race mentality and such inanity as who has cried and who hasn't, who's nice and who's mean or which candidate reeks more of Aqua Velva. We claim to be better than that, to be more concerned with the issues than the fluff, but we're not showing it on this issue. If we don’t force this change, who will? The corporate owned media isn’t going to do it on its own.
