Last night, State Sen. Andrew Rice spoke to a crowd that packed the public library in Muskogee, Okla. From the Muskogee Phoenix:
Frustrated by the direction federal government has taken since terrorists attacked America, first-term state Sen. Andrew Rice, D-Oklahoma City, says he’s ready to unseat U.S. Sen. James Inhofe, R-Oklahoma.
"He embarrasses me — as someone who is supposed to be a public servant from Oklahoma," Rice said Thursday evening during a meeting of the Muskogee County Democrats. "I don’t think we can afford him any more."

Two nights before, Andrew spoke to over 100 people in Okmulgee, Okla., a small town near Muskogee. As Andrew travels the state, we’re seeing it more and more – people in Oklahoma are looking for a change. They want someone who’s going to take risks for them and stand up for what’s right. They want someone who is going to look out for their state, both now and for future generations. They want a true leader, not someone struggling to preserve the status quo.
Andrew put it this way to the Muskogee Phoenix:
"People are pretty disgruntled about the way things are being done at the federal level, and I think what I have to offer stands in stark contrast to my opponent," Rice said during an interview at the Phoenix earlier in the day. "If he were trying to work across the aisle and get things done ... but that’s not happening."
In the upcoming legislative session, Sen. Andrew Rice will again show how to work across the aisle in the evenly divided State Senate. This week, he announced his first initiative for the upcoming session - working to offer tax cuts to caretakers of elderly relatives. Sen. Rice will re-introduce his bill to provide tax cuts to lower- and middle-income families who support aging relatives.
From the Oklahoman:
Under his proposal, individuals earning less than $35,000 and married couples earning less than $50,000 a year could deduct at least one-half of the total cost of support for a relative 70 or older who lives in the taxpayer's home.
"More and more Oklahomans are electing to personally care for their aging parents or loved ones by moving them into their family home," Rice said. "This is a selfless act, a compassionate decision that should be encouraged by our state."
Andrew Rice continues to prove he’s a true progressive Democrat, a leader who will bring real change for Oklahoma and the nation in the U.S. Senate.
Andrew’s campaign has always set goals of increasing our number of supporters. We’ve focused on the donors, not the dollars – and today is no different. We’re looking for five new Kossacks to donate to Andrew’s campaign by the end of the weekend. Help this true progressive unseat a true stalwart of the status quo, James Inhofe – support Andrew Rice’s campaign today!
