I had no intention of getting into this racism debate, but I'm listening to Slate-V, where Slate's Dahlia Lithwick and Emily Bazelon weigh in on the SCOTUS voting rights argument.
Check out the 3 1/2 minute mark.
A reference to the Justices "Shucking and Jiving" to avoid the case.
My valuable opinion after the fold.
Before today I would not have realized the racial undertones of "shuck and jive" and I can understand how someone might use it without realizing the weight of what one is saying.
The accusation of racism is serious, and if you point that charge at someone, I feel you should be dead sure the person meant harm by it. In the case of Andrew Cuomo, whether you like to or not, whether you want to or not, you would have to give some level of slack considering there's a chance he might not have realized the nature of the words.
If you feel otherwise, then you'd have to go after Dahlia Lithwick and Emily Bazelon. I don't think you will.
So ask yourself, is it the comment by Andrew Cuomo that really gets under your skin or is it his politics and who he supports?
