It amazes me that the candidates for the Republican nomination for president continue to chastise undocumented immigrants for breaking the rules yet they seem to be quietly endorsing the nullification of millions of votes by participating in the rule breaking primaries in Michigan and Florida.
The states of Florida and Michigan have broken the rules and moved their states primaries to the month of January. This rule breaking has resulted in 50-100% of the delegates from those states being turned away from their respective conventions. The officials of these states broke these rules for the sole purpose of providing their state an advantage in choosing the next president. These rules were agreed upon at the previous conventions and are fully binding on both parties. This has essentially insured that millions of voters from these states will be robbed of their say in the presidential race. Furthermore the Democrats in Florida can thank their Republican dominated legislature for guarantying that they have absolutely no representation at the Democratic national convention.
There are estimates of somewhere between 10 and 20 million undocumented immigrants in this country. Most of these people are good hardworking people that want an opportunity to make a better life for themselves and their families. a very large percentage of them are not criminals. they are however breaking the rules and many Americans are very disturbed by this. Americans feel that they are stealing American jobs. I maintain that Americans don't want those jobs anyway but that is an argument for another time.
The whole purpose of this discussion is to highlight the gross hypocrisy of the republican candidates in continuing the demagoguery of attacking undocumented immigrants while campaigning in these very states that are breaking the rules. I agree that rule breakers should be punished but what happened to "the punishment should fit the crime". I somehow feel that crossing the border to find a better life for your family is a much smaller crime than election fraud that nullifies the votes of millions of voters.
I applaud the Democratic candidates that have removed their names from the ballot in protest and even(to a lesser extent) applaud Hillary's absence of campaign from these states. However we are now faced with a campaign to get voters in Michigan to vote undecided so Hillary will not be seen as the only candidate and gain advantage that way.
However i find Mr McCain's and Mr Romney's total disregard for what i consider to be election fraud and to actually stand on the soil of these very states and chastise the undocumented immigrant to be hypocritical at best and appalling at worst.
It is interesting how most Americans can ignore the rules when we feel that they are unjust. It amazes me though how many Americans have fallen for the Republican demagoguery against the undocumented immigrant while ignoring such criminal activity in Washington, Michigan and Florida.
