Hello again from the Laesch campaign. You know, when I took the job of Blog Team Coordinator, I took it with the understanding that I would do one campaign update per week, with the occasional "This is just too good to wait until our weekly blog" diary. I took this position exactly a week ago, and this makes blog number four. The campaign is really heating up in the run-up to the election, and it just got hotter.
I am pleased and proud to announce two new endorsements to you. We have received word of endorsements from the national branch of the Progressive Democrats of America, as well as Noam Chomsky!
The campaign is very pleased to receive the endorsement of the PDA. During the endorsement process John showed he is the only true progressive candidate in the race. How? Simple - the process starts at the local level and John was the only candidate to even fill out the questionnaire, let alone show up to the 14th District PDA endorsement meeting. PDA brings with its endorsement a large organized group of grassroots volunteers , These volunteers will be very important to the Get out the Vote effort in the March special election.
The PDA states that:
PDA strives to rebuild the Democratic Party from the bottom up...
This is something that John strongly believes in. John and the field team always canvass with literature for other candidates. We have worked in DeKalb County with Pat Vary who is running for County Board. We have worked extensively with Mary Schneider, who is running for State Representative in Illinois 50th District. Last cycle, we worked with Tim Wise, who won his election for Police Chief of Annawan in Republican-controlled Henry County. We also worked with Pat Perez, who won an unprecedented victory for Democrats in Kane County in his race for Sherriff. These are Progressive Democrats in tough races all across the district. John recruited dozens of Precinct Committee People across the district; in fact, my husband is one of them and it was John that drew me into the local political party. It’s not enough for him if all he focuses on is his own race. Grassroots organizing and party-building will take John to victory in March and November.
Noam Chomsky was an unexpected and exciting endorsement for us. One of our volunteers, a big fan of Chomsky, took it upon himself to email him about the race and give him some information about John. We were very pleasently surprised to see that Chomsky responded, stating he would be "pleased to be listed as an endorser." We are pleased to add Chomsky to our growing list of progressive luminaries, including Studs Terkel, Barbara Ehrenreich, Dr. Quentin Young and Mike Malloy.
John has also been endorsed by many organizations, unions, precinct committee people, local elected officials, and voters across the district. To view the comprehensive list of endorsements received by the campaign to date, click here.
And, as always, any offers of contributions and volunteers would be more than appreciated.
Just a note: our volunteer link leads to our online action center, where you can not only sign up to volunteer, but you can also take action online. We also have remote phone banking and data entry to be done, so there is something for everyone to do, no matter where you are or what your comfort level is.
Thank you,
