Well Hillary Clinton may be elected our first female President (which would be more than ok with me, she'd make a fine President as would any of the Dems) but whom else of the fairer sex would have been or made a great President in her own right? Let's take a look:
Alot of great women have come and gone in our history, and we should always remember and be gracious to their contributions, but it is a true shame that it took until perhaps now for this great nation to elect someone other than some "pasty white guy" as friend of mine would say. Here are some other possibilities that I think would have made great female Presidents.
* Dolley Payne Todd Madison- James Madison's ever activist wife. She truly envisioned better things for women including advocating for their role and voice in politics to be heard. A woman way ahead of her time
* Isabella Baumfree (aka Sojourner Truth)- this former slave, abolisionist and women's right activist is often forgotten in the journey of women through the fight for the vote. A true role model for any woman of any era.
* Lucretia Mott- considered by many to be the first Amedrican "feminist" but was really one of the greatest initiators of women's political advocacy in this country. Much more so than Susan B., Lucretia, I believe, is the true embodiment of the woman's movement.
* Susan B. Anthony- of course the face and the famous woman of the woman's movement to many. This firebrand was nothing short of her legendary status which made her. For many, she remains the "feminist of femimists".
* Barbara Jordan- one of the most intellectual, deep thinkers of our time. She should be put on a pedestal for all women to look up to. Her heart, her convictions and her passion for voicing the truth will always remain as a testament to her greatness.
* Ann Richards- one of the greatest people I have ever had a chance to see and hear in my lifetime. She was and remains the toughest daughter of a witch that Texas has ever seen. It is sad that she is gone now, but this firey Texan had no equals in politics.
*Eleanor Roosevelt- since FDR is my hero, I have to say that I am biased towards Eleanor from the gitgo.. and I am not ashamed of that. If any one woman could have bucked the old boys network and run for President herself, it would have been her. Eleanor will always have a place in my heart as one of the greatest people ever to walk and live on this planet of ours.
* Bess Truman- every great man has an even greater woman next to him, and Bess was no different for Harry. Every bit as smart and dedicated as her husband to the things she cared about, Mrs. Truman reminds all of us of what someone who talks the talk and walks the walk could do in a position of leadership.
and there are many more I know, including one of my personal best friends- Dane County (Wisconsin) Executive Kathleen Falk http://www.countyofdane.com/...
whom is an up and coming star in Wisconsin politics.. so I hope you will add some of your own favorites that should have been or even could be President.
Enjoy the Thread.
