WexlerwantsHearings.com has registered over 175,000 supporters of Rep. Robert Wexler's call for hearings on the impeachment of Vice President Cheney. This is three times the number of supporters he initially hoped for. Still, it would be nice to have that number reach other significant milestones before Bush's State of the Union address that will mark the return of Congress to D.C.
It should be possible to generate more awareness in Democratic circles that this is a popular demand. Making signs and being visible for it in the caucus season should help. Phoning and e-mailing friends should help. I am not sure that visibility at the Rosebowl Parade in Pasadena helped much, as TV is a passive, entertainment media. I am hoping there is still some untapped depth to the netroots to boost this further, but face-to-face grassroots politicking at your local caucus or Democratic Club is so important... it lets the party leadership know that this is a Democratic initiative, not something being driven by truly fringe groups like thee Greens or Socialists, or lone wackos, angry people who choose to ignore their power and franchise in our society.
Here in MN, DFL Congressional District 5 has passed a resolution calling for the impeachment of Vice President Richard Cheney. It will be important to discuss and pass resolutions across the state that call for these hearings on our February 5th caucus date. I am working with others to see that a good resolution to this effect gets distributed widely, especially in districts 1 and 7, whose Members of Congress have been branded by some as Bush Dems or Blue Dogs. I think Colin Peterson and Tim Walz will vote the right way on a real vote to impeach, or to hold these hearings on Cheney, but I want to make sure these votes make sense to their constituents, and are supportd by broad sectors of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor party and the public at large.
Will you help me get these resolutions carfted and in front of MN's Feb 5th caucus attenddes? Will you try to do the same thing in your state, especially if you caucus tomorrow (Iowa) or January 19th (Nevada)?
