A quick question, maybe someone could tell me why this is a bad idea:
When a state or county wants to boost their local economy, they cut the sales tax for a week on goods and services.
Instead of providing a $800 check to each American, what about the federal government matching dollar for dollar with any local or state government that will cut their sales tax?
Many economists believe the "prime the pump" tax rebate doesn't work, as most people will either place the rebate directly in their accounts or use the money to pay down debt.
Matching the state and local government dollar for dollar maximizies the value of the federal contribution by leveraging the local governments to participate financially as well.
Stupid idea?
