This has been something that has increasingly begun to frustrate me --let me rephrase that-- it's begun to drive me absolutely nuts. I am talking about the "self proclaimed" Democrats, whom really offer nothing but a line claiming their party affiliation, followed by a generic anti Hillary statement, many times sounding like it came directly from Rush Limbaugh's mouth, and then ending it with a proclamation that they will vote for a republican before Hillary.
A little Confused? Here are a couple prime examples of what I am talking about, they are all comments from various liberal blogs and websites:
"I've been looking forward to hearing the debate in SC but turned it off after Clinton repeatedly attacked Obama and tried to get him off message. She is a shrew, in my opinion, and at 60 she represents the old regime. Her HUSBAND was president, and pillow talk or not HE was the one in charge of the country. Please, enough with the Bush Clinton Bush and NO Clinton. If Hillary is on the ticket as the nominee the Democrats will NOT win the election. As a democrat I will not support her"
"I'm a very politically interested Dem in a large family of moderate to conservative Republicans and Independents. I can, and have, made a good case with them for Obama, but there's no way I can justify a Hillary nomination to myself, much less to them. If the Dems are short-sighted and suicidal enough to give a Hillary the nomination instead of seizing the opportunity with Obama to create a once-in-a-lifetime historical political realignment in this country, they can count me, my family, and many of my Dem friends out this Nov."
"I am a lifelong Democrat and have been a strong Obama advocate--even donating money for the very first time in my life. (And I am over 50.) Still, all along, I thought, if Clinton gets the nomination, I'd vote for her over a Republican. Especially after the past decade of the Republican experience. However, after seeing Clinton in action in these past weeks and at last night's debate (as well as Bill's "contributions"), I will never vote for her. Never. If she gets the nomination, I will have to hope that McCain is nominated and give him a good look."
You get the picture. These type of comments are so rampant on various websites that I find myself so angry that I am force myself to watch a Fred Thompson stump speech on repeat. I can not stress how much I loathe these idiots, yes absolute dolts who claim to be Democrats, yet announce that they will vote Republican if Hillary gets the nomination. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SHUT UP! True blue Democrats like myself don't want your kind in our party, a fair weather fan is worse then the opposition. So spare us your "I'm taking my ball home so none of us can play" routine and jump ship now, don't bother waiting. The sick thing is I am not a huge Hillary fan myself, I am actually supporting Sen. Barack Obama. However if Hillary gets the nomination I will support her 100%, and I will work just as hard to win as I would if Obama had received the nod.
People say the downright nastiest things about Hillary and it perplexes me in the sense that I can not fathom how so many people could forget the eight years of prosperity America enjoyed under Bill Clinton's Presidency. Yet think that Hillary would run the show differently then he did, give me a break. These mouthpieces are whining for the sake of whining. If you are so against her winning, they stop crying and go out and volunteer for whatever candidate you support.
It seems that the Democrats, a party I am proud to say I am a part of, manage to do this type of "self mutilation" every election cycle. We march up to the firing line and pull the trigger on ourselves. Last night's debate was fiery, and yes it got intense at times, but guess what --IT'S A DEBATE--. Emotions tend to run high when people who have devoted their entire adult life to Politics are running for the nomination of their party for the Presidency. I'm sorry if you "didn't like the mean, mean debate last night", but it's that type of "Democrat" the kind with NO BACKBONE that has no place left in the Party. We are mad, we are angry, and you know what, if the candidates show a little emotion, and raise their voices then good. At least we know that unlike 2004 our nominee will actually have a pulse, and fight throughout the general election, and not show up to Denver this summer D.O.A. like the Bob Shrum led Kerry campaign did.
