{Note: I was just informed of the "call-out" diary no-no. My ignorance! I apologize, and I've changed the title.]
I am sure you are still a Kid for Edwards, even if you are going to vote for Obama.
Because we are never really for the person -- that would be a cult of personality, and that way lies fascism. Instead, we are for the principles a person calls out in us.
John Edwards calls out the best of America in us. He calls out the desire for fair play. He is an anti-aristocrat. He is against the corruption and despair-making of machines and he is for the celebration and feeding of what is good and alive in the human spirit.
So keep your name, Kids For Edwards, because that is your gift to Obama and the nation.
When you support Obama as Kids For Edwards, you are reinforcing and restating the Edwardsian Idea -- you are not abandoning it! You are seeing the way that ideal can be made real.
I am an Edwards supporter, but the media does not want John Edwards to be president, and Americans are powerless against the Main Stream Media (have you noticed how Edwards is starting to get face time on the teevee, now that they are sure he will not win?)
My purpose is not to support Barack Obama -- I still think he is all rhetoric. My purpose in considering voting for Obama is to Stop The Clinton Machine. I am against aristocracy, and this political dynasty building -- Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton -- is so anti-American it makes me sick. And I am now afraid that John Edwards might become the Nader of 2008, unable to win, but taking so many votes away from Obama that Clinton becomes the President. In the words of Egon Spengler: That would be bad.
And so, Kids For Edwards, I may follow you and vote for Obama. Americans seem unable to think critically anymore. A great many of us are conditioned to respond to the senses, and that's what Obama speaks to. He is beautiful. He is young. He is the media's darling Fascinating New Thing, the current shiny object -- and so we look.
It's sad. Edwards is the new Gore: the one we should have voted for. But he's been destroyed by the media. Now, for me, the question is: Do I vote for Edwards? Or is it more important to vote for Obama in order to stop Clinton?
