I like John Edwards.
If my first choice, Barack Obama, had flamed out tonight, I'd have hoped for Edwards to win over Hillary Clinton.
But the fact is, Edwards had his best chance to gain enough momentum to sustain a prolonged run by winning the Iowa Caucuses. He and Elizabeth have given it their all, but he has come up short.
The question is, what comes next?
Let there be no doubt that Edwards is no longer viable in this race. He has camped out in Iowa for 3-4 years, put together a top-notch organization and sank the lion's share of his resources into that state. He has neither the money, nor the momentum, nor the base to continue with any chance of victory. Unless Obama is caught with "a dead woman or a live boy," as they say, he simply won't be able to find a seam to re-enter the race.
We've had our share of nasty candidate wars on this site. Now, though, it's time for progressives to band together and fight for change together. We all want the same thing! The question is, how does Edwards continue his mission of bringing change to Washington, kicking out the special interests and making government work for working people again?
Edwards should drop out of the race tomorrow, and endorse Barack Obama for president. Together, they can form a wave that would be unstoppable. There's no amount of dirty tricks the other campaign will be able to pull with Obama's and Edwards's supporters together forming a united force for change!
What do you think?
