In the great hullabaloo about whether Obama or Clinton is the more progressive, has more spine, leads more or better, or whatever, it's instructive to do a little reviewing.
Mukasey is just as bad as Gonzo when it comes to
- telling the truth
- condoning torture
So it's useful to ask who voted to confirm, who voted against, and WHO DID NOT VOTE.
You can look it up:
Not Voting - 7
Alexander (R-TN)
Biden (D-DE)
Clinton (D-NY)
Cornyn (R-TX)
Dodd (D-CT)
McCain (R-AZ)
Obama (D-IL)
And the Democrats voting aye:
Bayh (D-IN)
Carper (D-DE)
Feinstein (D-CA)
Landrieu (D-LA)
Nelson (D-NE)
Schumer (D-NY)
plus of course:
Lieberman (ID-CT)
Note that every one of the senators running for president on the Dem side, including Dodd, did not vote. Note too that John McCain did not vote. But the real problems were the six so-called Dems who voted with the minority. We need to write those senators and let them know how we feel about their lack of judgment. We also need to recognize that the two Dem contenders left standing showed absolutely no leadership on this issue. The same way they are ducking on the FISA fight. It's shameful; its politics.
Obama, inspiring as he is, is in this regard no better than Clinton in my book.
