I’ve been working in Washington, DC for a long time and what I hate is when some politician comes along and says he’s going to change DC. Honey, you’re not going to change DC. If you want to succeed, you need to work the system.
DC is like a bad version of high school with these clichés and hierarchies. You can change who’s popular, but you’re not going to get rid of the clichés. And it’s naive and a waste of time to think you will.
That’s why I, a former Richardson supporter, am switching to Hillary. She knows how DC works. She knows how to fight, using the system. Obama is too sweet and naïve for me.
This is a brutal city. I work in the nonprofit sector and you should see how the nonprofits fight each other for power, money, and recognition—even though they all want the same common good.
Obama talks about limiting the lobbyists, which is a good idea in principal. The thing is everyone lobbies everyone in DC, all the time, not just the paid lobbyists.
DC is a city full of workaholic, political-savvy, power-hungry people, who have their own code of behavior. I want a president who understands this and can fight against the piranhas for my interest. I don’t want a sweet boy scout with a beautiful voice who going to waste his time trying to get everyone to hold hands and work together.
