Liberal icon and former Senator Bill Bradley is set to endorse Barack Obama according to CBS News. Here's the quick blurb they're reporting:
ABC News' Karen Travers Reports: Former Sen. Bill Bradley will endorse Sen. Barack Obama in New Hampshire on Monday, ABC News has learned.
A source close to the senator said that he has waited until now to endorse because he wanted to give former Sen. John Edwards a shot in Iowa first.
Bradley is a former Democratic senator from New Jersey and ran for his party's nomination in 2000, losing to former Vice President Al Gore.
It was widely speculated that Obama's win in Iowa would set off a firestorm of endorsements that were waiting in the wings to see how he and the rest of the field did in the caucuses. This should definitely help solidify Obama's liberal credentials, though I don't know how much it will play in the largely independent New Hampshire. But hey, I'd rather have 'em than not.
Perhaps more importantly though is who might be next. The one name that comes to mind is, of course, Bradley's 2000 opponent, Al Gore. Though he has said that he would likely endorse in the primaries, he has yet to even hint at it in the past couple of months. We all know that there is no lost love between Al and Hillary, and now that Obama is the frontrunner, I would not be surprised if a Gore endorsement was on the immediate horizon to solidify his edge. Though on the other hand, the case can definitely be made that he might stay out to avoid what happened post-Dean.
What do you think - who are still the "big gets" out there and who do you think they'll go for?
