OSU seems to be on the way to another Big-Ten Embarrsment so I thought I'd write up a predictions diary insted of reliving the Rose Bowl. For the record, these were my predictions before Iowa:
Obama: 35 Clinton: 29 Edwards: 20 Richardson: 6 Biden: 5 Dodd: 3 Kucinich: 2
Pretty good, except for being off by 10 on Edwards.
The strongest memory for me of Iowa is watching the Obama family accompany Barrack to the podium for his victory speech. I was just proud to have been a supporter of this moment...with a tiny E-donation to prove it. Silly as that sentiment seems, I think a lot of people shared it. There is now a sense of history in the making and people, especially Democrats don't want to have sit around and say "Actually I voted for LBJ in the 1960 Primary. I didn't think Jack was up to the job."
So here goes nothing:
- Obama 44
- Hillary 28
- Edwards 19
- Richardson 6
- Kucinich 1
Trivia: Biden, Dodd and Gravel will account for the other 2 in some order-their names are still on the ballot, after all. Even Gravel's. And he didn't even bother with a concession announcement.)
Just for shits and giggles, I made predictions on the GOP too. (Kind of like hanicapping tryouts for the Washington Generals but as the title says...I have nothing better to do.)
These were my picks:
Huckabee: 34 Romney: 31 McCain: 12 Paul: 12 Thompson: 6 Giuliani: 4
Various other weirdos: 1
Here I made two mistakes: I over rated Romney and I under rated Thompson. And I'm probably in danger of doing the same thing again but here goes:
- McCain: 32 (He's popular in this state and Romney has been exposed as a schmo. But this win will still ring hollow in light of the fact that he cruised to a victory here in 2000.)
- Romney: 29
- Huckabee: 15 (As long as he finishes 3rd with a little bith of breathing room, I think he can be happy with this result and then head to South Carolina for his next win.)
- Paul: 12 (Fox News helped him by excluding him from the debate. He's not going to win any Republican votes by being seen and yammering about the Gold Standard. But he will win plenty of Independent votes in the "Live Free or Die" state by being excluded from the forum by a media oligarchy.
- Giuliani: 7 (This should be the headline but I don't think it will be.)
- Fred Thompson: 5
