Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. I just described the last 60 years of Mid-East "peace proposals".
If you watched that debate doubleheader on Saturday you may have noticed the most intriguing moment. It actually came in the Republican half when Ron Paul claimed that our foreign policy might have something to do with why the Muslims hate us. What annoyed me was that when the Democrats came up, they were never given a chance to give their views on this. The time is long overdue to start taking a closer look at what we do in their countries.
You may not be aware of this but when Theodor Herzl founded modern Zionism in the nineteenth century he had considered other locations such as Cyprus, the Sinai Peninsula and Northern Kenya. So why was Palestine finally chosen? Was it because the Bible promises that land to the Jews? Might this violate the separation of Synagogue and State. Israel is the only stable democracy in the region, but they could have done the same somewhere else and without becoming the only country on Earth to have its very existence (not its policies) questioned. Iraq is also on its way to becoming a democracy but we were all opposed to the war!
The Democratic candidates weren't given a chance to respond to this, so I have decided to give Daily Kos Democrats a chance to express their view.
