Unbelievable.
"I know what Americans are going through there," Palin said on the radio show. "And you know, even today, Todd and I are looking at what’s going on in the stock market, the relatively low number of investments that we have, looking at the hit that we’re taking, probably $20,000 dollars last week in his 401K plan that was hit.
"I’m thinking, ‘Geez, the rest of America, they’re facing the exact same thing that we are. We understand what the problems are.’"
I'd hesitate to add to the plethora of Sarah Palin diaries, but I feel like this one takes the cake. I hope there's audio of it, because it would make an excellent ad.
The important thing about Palin-Mania, in my opinion, is that we think of it in terms of what it can do for us. Read these messages and bring them up to voters. Let's hope we see them mentioned by surrogates and taken up as a meme. Draw the Palin pick back to McCain by questioning his judgment. The presidential race often seems a lot like an overblown popularity contest, so there's no reason not to milk what we have and turn it into votes for November.
I'd also caution against scorn though. Her gaffes are severe and worthy of being pointed out, but calling her 'Caribou Barbie' or talking overtly about her idiocy will just turn people off. There's nothing wrong with criticism, but even in presidential politics stopping just short of outright character attacks is going to be the most effective means of bringing people over to our side.
Happy Hump Day Dkos!
EDIT: Diggit - get the story out there - keep the narrative going. Kos is right on the money on this one.
