In today's Washington Post Charles Krauthammer has penned a screed attacking Obama's "associations" with Rezko, Ayers and Wright. He says:
But associations are important. They provide a significant insight into character.
So, let's look into some of Krauthammer's associations and see what they say about him.
First, Krauthammer is associated with Christopher Hillthe Marxist ideologist and alleged Communist spy. For a whole year (1970-1971) Krauthammer studied politics as a Commonwealth Scholar at Balliol College, Oxford. Professor Hill was Master (a teaching Dean/President) of Balliol specializing in politics. Clearly, Mr. Krauthammer needs to explain his Marxist background and communist ties. Could his attacks on Obama be merely a mole operation designed to aid the decline of America by helping to elect a choleric, unsteady, corrupt old man (McCain)?
Speaking of the Commonwealth Scholars, other recipients include a feminist (Germaine Greer), author of The Female Eunuch) and a noted multicultural philosopher (Will Kymlicka). Really, Mr. Krauthammer needs to explain why he hates women so much (Greer) and why he supports minority group rights (Kymlicka).
Then there is the fact that Krauthammer was an M.D. specializing in psychiatry. Significantly, he and colleague identified "secondary mania" - a mania that can be part of bipolar disorder. Since it is a fact that psychiatrists have a much higher incidence of mental problems, including depression and drug use, and suicide than the general population, this might provide an explanation for Mr. Krauthammer's manic obsession with "associations." It could be that Mr. Krauthammer's own mental condition provided insights that led to the identification of this secondary mania. Or, the availability and high incidence of self-medication in the psychiatric profession could have led to drug dependency issues that are now affecting his thought processes. Clearly, Krauthammer needs to prove that his odd opinions, delusional ranting, and unhinged writing are not the product of a mania or drug use.
Now, this column is clearly written by one of the Serious People to provide cover for all of the stupid attacks on Obama. Tony Rezko has repeatedly said that Obama never did anything wrong:
Two months before his conviction on fraud charges, Rezko typed a letter to his trial judge accusing "overzealous" prosecutors of pressuring him to talk about wrongdoing involving Obama or Blagojevich. Rezko said there was none to talk about.
"They are pressuring me to tell them the 'wrong' things that I supposedly know about Governor Blagojevich and Senator Obama," Rezko wrote U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve in an April bid to be released on bail during his trial.
"I have never been party to any wrongdoing that involved the governor or the senator," Rezko continued. "I will never fabricate lies about anyone else for selfish purposes. I will take what comes my way, but I will never hurt innocent people.
We all know that the so-called association between Obama and Ayers is tenuous. Even the Federal Prosecutor who led the case against the Weathermen Underground says any linkage is silly.
The closest association Obama has is with Reverend Wright. However, Obama has repeatedly said that he "strongly condemns" the Reverend's inflammatory statements. Obama even quit his Church to emphasize his rejection of those views. If Krauthammer wants to go there, we can be all Muthe all the time. Reverend Wright inspired day-care and social progress, Rev. Muthe inspired witch-hunts similar to ones in Nigeria that maim and kill children.
I won't sit still for this "association" business. Call out Krauthammer. Add your own Krauthammer "associations" below.
