Assuming that Obama goes on to win this election, there are no election stealing shaninagans, and he is inaugarated our next President, where does McCain's future lie? It is my best guess that with the overwhelming makeover of the Congress to the Dems, if he remains in the Senate, he can no longer regain his treasured mantle of being a maverick since his vote will be all but meaningless. If Obama is reelected and the Congress remains Democratic for another 6 years, and McCain seeks reelection, that puts McCain at 78, and on the wrong side of the aisle in 2014, if he is still in the Senate/alive. I know that the hypotheticals in this diary are many, but I wonder what scenarios people see for his legacy. I can only think of bad ones which place his bet to reverse his course in order to capture the nomination and run a vile campaign for president to be a very bad mistake and one that will cost him only frustration and sadness for the rest of his days.
Any thoughts?
