So here we are. T-minus 22 days and counting towards election day. Just a scant day or so away from the last debate. Then comes the final stretch and we're in the voting booth voting multiple times voting for Barack and Joe.
However, I'm starting to see a bunch of nervous Nellies out there sometimes including me writing diary entries trying to anticipate what McCain and his campaign will use as October surprises against Obama in the final three weeks.
BUT, what about Team Obama? Does anyone really think that they've shown every card in their campaign deck? You just know that David Plouffe and David Axelrod are developing their own master strategies for the remaining weeks of the campaign.
Some food for thought and welcome responses below the fold...
- By now its pretty apparent that
the unfunny version of Don Rickles John McCain will use both the Bill Ayers and ACORN lines of attack against Barack at the last debate.
Of course Team Obama was prepared for that line of attack at the last debate, but it never came up. Since then, they've had an additional week to sharpen Barack's response to that line of attack.
In typical Barack style, I think the response will chide McCain into looking like a desperate man. He doesn't even have to go down the road of calling out Palin's husband, the First Douche Bag Dude as being a secessionist, or McCain's ties to G. Gordon Liddy.
All he has to do is use the free ammunition supplied to him by the multitude of news organizations calling McCain's attacks false. I'd even use Time Magazine's quote of calling McCain's campaign "an embarrassment."
I also think, for the first time, Barack may become a tad forceful and call McCain a liar. If that happens, I may get vocal nodules due to my loud screaming of the word "YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS... FINALLY" and I think would also get a visceral nod of approval by people watching the debate.
Like, "Senator McCain, you simply cannot lie your way to the White House."
Barack's response will be another campaign rope-a-dope on McCain, making him look petty and laughable.
- ACORN. Now, I know almost nothing about ACORN. All I know is that it has something to do with Americans that are in the most dire of economic situations and it tries to help them. I saw some diary on here showing McCain attending an ACORN event.
- Now this is just my theory, but I truly believe that Senator Obama will roll out two additional public supporters in the next few days:
Colin Powell and Michael Bloomberg.
I know many of you don't like Colin Powell for various reasons, but he still holds and enormous amount of respect around this country. Psychologically, I think a very strong public Powell endorsement would go a long way in the minds of many independents and undecideds.
I also think that after the overt racism on display over the last few days by the McCain campaign, I believe it would behoove Powell to publicly support Barack.
I know Michael Bloomberg is an interesting figure to most people. He's now and independent. He's a self-made billionaire and understands the economy. He's also Jewish (like me, minus the billions) and that also would have a psychological impact on many undecided Jewish voters here in Florida and Pennsylvania.
THESE ARE MY HUNCHES. JUST HUNCHES. NOTHING MORE.
- Warren Buffett. Mr. Buffett is already a public supporter of Senator Obama, but I would think that a very strong press conference with Barack and Warren with Mr. Buffett emphatically endorsing Barack's economic agenda, combined with a denunciation of McCain's economic plan would really hurt the McCain campaign.
- Stick Bill and Hill in West Virginia, Ohio, and western Pennsylvania only. They don't even have to tweak their speeches. Just be forceful with their support for Barack.
- All I know is that their most powerful weapon for victory on November 4th is us. I'm so amazed at how much grass roots support Barack has. Hell, even I signed up five people (all for Barack) down here in Florida. I've never done that before. I've made my parents, sister, brother in law, and friends donate money. I stay on top of the issues.
I'm sure whatever the Team Obama has at the ready for the next 3 weeks is much better than my prognostications. They must have Jedi juice or something over there. They have been on top of their shit their stuff for years now.
I've donated money as often as I could and you'd think that the Obama campaign would get the hint that I'm in the tank for them, but I've still received 4 phone calls from the campaign down here just making sure I'm voting for Barack!!! I mean damn... I can only imagine what they're doing with undecideds, etc.
So. Everyone...stay positive. Stay vigilant. Don't give McCain / Pavlov an inch. Keep fighting the good fight. Keep it up. Do whatever you can as often as you can.
P.S. While I go on fivethrityeight daily (I guess to get heart murmurs) and use the Kos interactive electoral map, its going to be closer than any of us expect. Its way too early to start with the "landslide" talk. I'll take a win. I'll take 270 electoral votes for starters. Let's just get to the top of the mountain, then we can see how far we've really climbed...
