If we remember way back to 2005 when Immigration became a giant issue? Remember when all of the radical righties spent an enormous amount of energy fight for a border fence, Lou Dobbs found his calling, and the GOP decided to take on the comprehensive immigration package proposed by Senator Kennedy and who else-Senator McCain? Guess what group supported Senator McCain's efforts? ACORN!
ACORN and other groups sponsored an event championing the highly controversial Immigration legislation and they decided to have an event and guess who found himself at the event:
February 23, 2006 Thursday 2:00 AM EST
SEN. MCCAIN LEADS RALLY ON IMMIGRATION AT MIAMI DADE COLLEGE
I found this on Lexis Nexis and it is from Newswire dated Feb 23, 2006. not sure this will work for people it is through school
HMMM! ACORN was just fine back then.
The Miami event is being sponsored by the New American Opportunity Campaign (NAOC), a coalition of local and national advocacy organizations, in partnership with ACORN, Catholic Charities Legal Services Archdiocese of Miami, Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Miami Dade College, People for the American Way/Mi Familia Vota en Acci?n, Service Employees International Union, Unite for Dignity, and UNITE HERE!.
[emphasis mine]
Remember how all of the GOP hated this bill? Remember how most of the GOP leadership held resentments toward John McCain?
The Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act was introduced in the Senate by Senators Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and John McCain (R-AZ) and in the House by Representatives Jim Kolbe (R-AZ), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), and Luis Gutierrez (D-IL). It brings the 11 million undocumented immigrants out from the shadows; sets up legal channels and realistic caps for workers and family members to enter in the future; provides for tough enforcement; and enables more immigrants to learn English and prepare for citizenship.
Remember this little bill you really had a woody over Senator McCain?
Perhaps when ACORN calls you out on your hypocracy today, you should listen. Do you really want to bring this up and lose the last vestiges of the radical base that OH SO hated you for this bill?
