I didn't read the thread when it was first posted but I've seen many references to it lately, so I decided to read it and I was like WTF !!!,there's no need for that, not now. I know it's an opinion and doesn't carry much weight, but it's symbolic of the early celebration on many democratic blogs right now,THREE long weeks before the election.I just hope it won't come back to hound us .If we lose this election, even narrowly, we'll be more demoralized than the GOP would be after an Obama landslide.
The campaigns have been particularly volatile and unstable in this election cycle making it very difficult to predict what's going to happen one or two weeks in advance. In this environment, three weeks seem like an eternity . We still have one debate and 21 days of campaigning, which means anything can happen between now and election day. Who would have predicted Obama's current solid lead in the polls 4 weeks ago when a USA Today/Gallup poll came out showing McCain with a 10 % lead ? With things getting better on Wall Street it's unlikely the economy will dominate the debates and narratives in the next 3 weeks as much as it did in the last 4 weeks.
We've lost the last 2 presidential elections when the EV projections showed us winning the EC before the election, which means we are up against more than worthy opponents who will try everything possible to win ;As reported by the BBC a few days ago, the GOP is yet again planning massive election fraud and we can't underestimate their ability to pull it off . I know from a reliable source that the Obama campaign internals have the race a lot closer than what we currently see on polls and I'm pretty sure this polls you're relying on will tighten in the next 2 weeks and will probably show a dead heat going into the election.
Blind optimism coupled with disrespect and underestimation of the opponent,as displayed in that Kos thread,is totally uncalled for as it helps McCain effectively play the underdog card he has decided to use for the next weeks.
Don't get me wrong, there is a strong possibility Obama will end up winning this election in a landslide but if we start taking things for granted this early, we might even lose and we'll have only ourselves to blame for that loss.
