As I have been thinking about the last presidential debate set for tonight, I have been wondering who will show up to argue the republican side. My question, as we await the debate tonight, is who will John McCain portray in tonights debate? Will he be a Jerry Springer guest, talking about Ayers, Acorn, Rev. Wright? Is he ready to throw out the time worn red meat comments to appease his base? He has been challanged by both Obama and Biden to, "say it to his face". He told his base in a recent event that he will do just that. But will he really go there when opinion polls show him losing more undecideds each time he does this? And if he does, what strategy, of the many Obama could use, will Obama respond with? I see this as a lose or lose for McCain.
More below the fold:
Will he be the Elmer Fudd we saw in the last debate? Remember the guy who was in the background wandering around the stage as Obama spoke. I tried to imagine what was in his mind while doing this. I pictured him plainly thinking, "Waskely Wabbit, I've got you now!" Just before each brilliant counter arguement by Obama.
Or will the John McCain of 2000 show up and admit that he doesn't have all of the answers and spend time genuinely trying to make a connection.
Maybe, the erratic, angry McCain shows up and snarls at all of us for the entire debate. Will he finally just lose it? And what about the POW McCain? Will the POW McCain show up and subject us to endless stories of the POW experience? And, yet again, we will learn later that these were actually someone else's expereinces already recounted in another book.
The pressure of being so far behind in the polls is directly on John McCain. He must do something to move the numbers. Maybe he will decide to morph into all of these and his head will melt (an Indiana Jones movie comes to mind).
It is close to Halloween and any of these personas have already been worn, maybe he will choose yet another we haven't seen. I am really curious about his tactic for tonight. I won't use the word strategy as his campaign has not been strategic. One thing I do know is that Senator Obama has planned something for whoever decides to come tonight. I think that viewership numbers will be greater tonight than the previous debates.
What do you think, because I really am curious about who shows up tonight to debate the republican side?
