I am a liberal blogger, with my own website (lincolnia.blogspot.com). Recently, a hard nosed conservative friend wrote a repsonse to my "right to vote" posting, suggesting that "stupid people" shouldn't be allowed to vote. She was suggesting that some sort of test or requirement be given for people to vote. She then went off on liberals, which doesn't surprise me.
Here is her response:
You bet your sweet bippie people should qualify to vote, just as they should qualify to drive. Voting is too serious a responsibility to leave to dolts who don't know up from down. Do I want the leaders of my country to be selected by a bunch of stupid people? (And by that I don't mean low- or middle-income blue collar workers. Unlike my liberal friends, I don't indulge in the kind of classism that assumes that poor equals stupid. Stupidity knows no socio-economic boundaries.) Why is it that liberals want "stupid" people to vote? Could it be that they believe that's the only way a liberal will get elected?
ANYWAY, I crafted a response for her, but I also wanted to elicit help from my friends at Kos. How would you respond to her comments? I would appreciate the help and advice.
