Mom is a retired secretary. She reads the front page of the newspaper every day. It's her morning ritual. She does not talk to friends or family about politics. Ever. But this year has been different.
Mom's usual comment about politicians is: "They are all corrupt." So why bother? This year she has observed my avid participation and engagement in this Presidential race. She has gone from "I'm not sure Americans will vote for a Black Man" to "You can't steal a landslide."
Mom has made her first donation to a political candidate EVER. Barack Obama (and Michelle Obama) have reached her. To the tune of $100.00.
She is very polite with her Republican friends. "We shouldn't discuss politics at dinner time." She's not in anybody's face about this. But she is passionate. And once she is on board you can expect more good things from her. I am so pleased to see this, what amounts to a mind opening experience for her, that maybe good can come from a politcian.
I don't have too much more to say about it, but it seems to be typical of this election year. Obama's campaign is penetrating into uncharted areas across the board. The internet is what finally got through to mom. She likes the youtube informercials and so on.
Anyway, I personally am heartened today to see another Virginia poll that has Obama up 10 points. Given that the Republican election theft machine is kicking into high gear, I like to have my worst case scenario formula for Obama victory.
Here it is: Kerry states plus Iowa and Virginia = 272
I can't get caught up in the talk about a landslide because I respect the Republican Evil.
Just today it seems Republicans have put two hundred thousand Ohio votes into the Unknown zone via lawsuit.
Obama has done his job. But the rest of the Democratic political organization/machine is still in wishful thinking land if they expect the Republicans to "let" them take nine senate seats without a good amount of public blood letting.
