Normally I ignore opt-in polls, especially on-line opt-in polls, for reasons I imagine ought to be pretty obvious.
But this one I think deserves some attention. It is from my local newspaper's daily edition website. Every day they have a poll, mostly to keep readers engaged.
Now, I am from perhaps the reddest county in a traditionally red state, North Carolina. Wingnuts outnumber moderates here like 8/1. Even more of a reason to ignore these opt-ins.
Today's poll I took notice of. It allowed the voter to state a voting preference: Obama/Perdue (Dem candidate for Governor), McCain/Perdue, Obama/McCrory (GOP), McCain/McCrory.
I was fascinated to see that the vote was 48% Obama/McCrory (out of 951 votes at this writing). These people HAVE to be true GOP voters who support Obama. I can't think of another explanation.
If I were in the McCain camp this poll would make my blood run cold.
