I hear it everywhere, from CNN to a local sports radio show. The talking heads just don't get it. McCain kicked Obama's butt in the last debate. Every time Obama opens his mouth, it means more taxes. We're a broke nation, so we can't make sure everyone can afford health care. I can't believe what I'm hearing most of the time (and that's for the very short periods of time I listen to such individuals).
They just don't seem to realize that this kind of mentality is exactly why McCain is where he is in the polls. Democrats would have made health care affordable for all Americans by doing things like not invading Iraq (if the 2000 election had not been "stolen" from Gore), but they conveniently omit that point. And of course, they are all making more than $250,000 a year, and the thought of them paying higher taxes (even though it wouldn't mean any change in their lifestyles) sense shivers up and down their spines.
But the disconnect goes further; it represents a major conflict of interest they never disclose. All the people who seem to be either supporting McCain or at least trying to makes things closer (or make it look like the race is closer than it actually is) are conflicted, either because they would pay more in taxes if Obama becomes President or because they need to keep viewers/listeners from turning off the TV/radio. How many of these people don't have excellent health coverage? How many of these people are making less than $250,000 a year? If they want me to listen to them for more than about a minute while they spew the usual nonsense, I want these kinds of conflicts of interest disclosed! Until then, goodbye CNN and the rest, and hello DailyKos.
I'd like to hear from those who aren't making $250,000 a year or more, and who don't have a very secure lifestyle (how about some professors of political science, history, sociology, etc. who don't have tenure?), but that's obviously asking too much.
Edit (addition): I'll also mention that pundits often act like spoiled children, which I think most people find offensive when they are worried about what they consider to be important issues.
