UPDATE: Due to the donations raised ($15,000) - the judge has delayed the auction!
War in Iraq took her son, Wall St. greed is about to take her home.
Minorityfilms here at Kos posted an American News Project video two days ago here and at Huffington Post that drew a response from several communities and led to a fund being set up by CODEPINK to save the house of Jocelyn Voltaire, who is a victim of an unscrupulous lender.
Jocelyn Voltaire is just one of many that are struggling today. However, we have a real chance to make a difference here. This woman has recently lost her son in Iraq, and she should not have to also bear the grief of loosing her home of over 20 years.
$20,000 is needed to save the house from an auction today, and $13,000 has been raised in the last two days.
Follow me below the fold to find out how you can help.
CODEPINK has sent out emails about the campaign for Jocelyn:
War in Iraq took her son, Wall St. greed is about to take her home.
CODEPINK says if we raise $20,000 right away,
we can avert another tragedy and provide a model of what Congress should be doing-bailing out the people and not Wall Street!
Please visit the CODEPINK fundraising page for Jocelyn Voltaire and give if you can.
For background information, please visit visit minorityfilms diary from earlier today and his video at American News Project. From his diary:
Today, October 17th, her home will be auctioned off at Queens County Supreme Court. There are a group of supporters showing up with her to protest this and donations have been pouring in since yesterday. There will be a press conference at noon. American News Project will be filming this and reporting as it happens.
Jocelyn Voltaire is an ACORN member. This is one of the foreclosure tragedies that ACORN has been trying to prevent.
Thanks to minorityfilms, IngeniousGirl and CODEPINK, and all the others here that are trying to help.
