There is little doubt that we are on the eve of an hisorical election...an event that will be remembered for the ages. But with poll numbers looking good for Obama there is fear that some will get complacent. Even Barack is telling his voters not to get too cocky and fall into the trap that "Obama doesn't need my one little vote." No one wants to wake up on on November 5th with that guilt on their head if this election is lost!
But there is more to this election than just putting a Democrat back in the White House. This is history and we get to actively be a part of making it. Years from now we will be telling our kids and grandkids that we personally helped elect Barack Obama president of the United States of America! How often does a turning point in history present itself to us like this?
My dad used to tell a great story. When he would meet someone he would say, "shake my hand." Then he would say, "you just shook the hand that shook the hand that shook the hand of Abraham Lincoln!" See, his great grandfather was in the Civil War and was injured. While in a field hospital President Lincoln came around and asked my great, great grandfather if there was anything he could get for him. "A wee shot of whiskey would be nice", he said. So President Lincoln shouted "get this soldier a shot of whiskey" and shook his hand and thanked him for his service. Even a humdred and twenty five years later my dad still loved to tell that story and brag about his personal connection to history and a great man.
Now is our time to be a part of history and the making of a great president. To say years from now "shake the hand that changed history and elected Barack Obama president of the United States in 2008". This is the moment and it will only happen if enough people cast their vote and commit to being one of the millions of votes that change this country on November 4th.
