So this is incredibly frustrating. Weeks ago, I knew I'd be back at school before early voting began in Nevada. By fax, I requested an absentee ballot (I live in Washoe County). So far, so good.
A couple of days ago, I got a call from my mom, who said that something looking like an absentee ballot had shown up at our house. Strange, I thought, but maybe it's a sample ballot. In fact, because I used an internet fax service, I was able to go back and recheck that I had properly filled out my original request. I had, and my school address was big, bold, and impossible to miss.
Just to be sure, I emailed the Washoe County registrar, asking if they had accidentally sent my ballot to my Washoe County address. Two days later, I got this terse reply:
"Your absentee ballot was sent out on Oct.10th to (the Washoe County address) because we didn't have your (school) address."
I then called and confirmed that they never entered my school address into their database, so they just sent the ballot to my house. When asked what to do, they said "Call your parents and ask them to forward it." I was expecting a bit more help from the registrar, which had made the error in the first place. Oh well.
So, fellow Nevadans, and anyone requesting an absentee ballot: It's not enough to correctly fill out and submit your form. Get in touch with them before they mail it, if possible, and make sure that they correctly entered your data into their mailing database.
