Obviously we don't want to get complacent.
Obviously the only real poll is on election day.
We need to turn every promised vote into a real one.
What we don't need is some armchair internet geek kvetching about us getting complacent, when we're busy volunteering, and trying to get the job done.
And spare us the diaries that try to scare us into working harder with faux-headlines of McCain pulling out a squeaker in the polls.
If you want to motivate - here are your best bets:
- Example. Your example motivates. Go volunteer. Have fun, recruit others. They need a lot of help with the GOTV phase in many areas, including non swing states.
- Blowout. Just think of the fathead pundits on TV and how a major victory will shut them up. Think about how it will change people's perception to see the amazing turnout and realize that we won a lot of traditionally red states.
- Down ticket. Think about all the times you've been disappointed at how congress caved on one issue or another. We need some breathing room in our leads. That breathing room will give us room to put pressure on the less progressive Democrats. We won't need their approval for a majority, and we will be able to start challenging them in primaries, if we have a solid majority. We are at about a 50/50 chance of getting 58 senators, and with a little luck we can break 60. This is huge.
So to all you "We're losing, we're down by 10 points, don't get complacent" types I say: Who's complacent?
