I am Barry Welsh and I am running for Congress in Indiana’s 6th District. Last night I posted a diary IN-06 "Walking with Giants" Senator Birch Bayh and in the diary I asked for funds for radio and cable TV spots.
It costs on average 12 dollars for a 30 sec radio spot and we can buy cable in the largest towns for 6 dollars per thirty second spot.
I just wanted to write and thank those that contributed and let them know that I booked an additional ad buy of radio for election day and the four business days before with the money raised last night.
We have five days of radio presence on five different stations, three FM and two AM, covering the following counties, Wayne, Union, Franklin, Fayette, Rush, Shelby, Randolph, Southern and Eastern Henry and Northern Decatur. That’s how far just a little goes out here.
We have 14 full counties and part of 5 others, and in one night with only 600 dollars, we are able to have an additional presence in 9 counties out of 19.
I know the conventional wisdom says we shouldn’t have a chance out here, but no one has a ground campaign like we have built in the past four years. The other races in Indiana are well funded, but being first time candidates and having the "carpetbagger" label will make it even tougher in those districts as they have higher R% to start with, and we started with 40% of the vote from last cycle and 94,000 primary voters in May, and they are all coming back. We will have over 100,000 people voting for me. We know that. We have to reach the middle and make sure that we have over 137,000 people voting for us and we win. We have the UAW helping tomorrow with a Labor to Labor door to door across the district.
We have many things working for us other than the ground game and the help of good Kos members; we are first on the ballot in the biggest counties, we have a Libertarian running that ran as a Republican in 2006 in the primary against Pence and peeled off almost 14%, and we have Pence still telling people he wants to put Social Security in the stock market and that just doesn’t play.
